The Influence of Health Concern, Health Anxiety, and Communication with Healthcare Providers on Health Information Seeking Behavior on the Internet

|
Objectives: This study aimed to identify the influences of health concern, health anxiety, and communication with healthcare providers on health information seeking behavior on the Internet among middle aged adults.
Method: The research design for this study was a descriptive survey using convenient sampling. Data collection was done using self-report questionnaires of 194 adults in Gangneung city. Collected data were analyzed using t-test, ANOVA, Pearson Correlation Coefficient, and multiple linear regression analyses with the SPSS 22.0 Program.
Results: There were significant positive relationships among health concern, health anxiety and health information-seeking behavior on the internet. The biggest influencing factor of health information seeking behavior on the Internet was health anxiety. This model accounted for 18% of the total variance.
Conclusions: The results of this study showed that health anxiety is a major variable affecting health information seeking behaviors on the internet.
